I’m Michael Quick. I connect infrastructure, software, security, and the people who depend on them. My experience spans product support, IT operations, software leadership, and division management in a healthcare technology business.
I help organizations understand their systems, make informed technical decisions, and work through the implementation. My current independent work focuses on practical security, AI-assisted workflows, and systems that preserve privacy and user control.

Operational work
Self-hosted systems
Publishing, knowledge management, and analytics require ongoing decisions about hosting, access, maintenance, and recovery.
I configure and maintain self-hosted websites and services, connecting those operational concerns rather than treating each service in isolation. The work includes access controls, backups, software updates, and checks that changes preserve existing functionality.
For analytics, I use self-hosted Umami with filtering that retains UTM campaign parameters while excluding unrelated query parameters and URL fragments.
Current investigation
Privacy-preserving AI and security
Small organizations may benefit from AI-assisted analysis but need to consider what information leaves their systems and how much confidence to place in the results.
I’m investigating practical security assessment methods, local processing, and AI-assisted analysis. The focus is on handling sensitive information carefully, making findings traceable to evidence, and producing recommendations that fit limited resources.
This is ongoing research into useful approaches, rather than a finished assessment product.

I progressed from product support into IT leadership, taking responsibility for internal network systems and software. I led a three-person team comprising myself, a network administrator, and a software engineer, including software work for internal users and commercial deployment.
As a participant in division management, I connected technical decisions with operational reliability, security, regulatory risks, and business priorities.
That experience informs my approach today: understand the dependencies, examine the tradeoffs, and remain accountable for how decisions work in practice.
